“Awning,” by artist Douglas Senft, was selected by the Portland Development Commission from over 200 proposals in a call for art designed to “humanize” the modern architecture of the Portland Center. Senft was only 26 at the time of the work’s installation. He is from Burnaby, B.C. and has had numerous public commissions in Canada, the United States and Europe.
